I have always had a problem with judges, not on a personal level but due to education and being on a power trip. What a lot of people do not know is that to become a judge you can simply be appointed and not even have a law degree in some states.
Furthermore, and more of my issue is it takes no further education to become a judge. Yes, the vast majority have law degrees yet again no further education is required. They do not need to take any biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, the list goes on. Now this is important because Neil DeGrasse Tyson told a story regarding jury duty for a person accused of cocaine possession. The following paraphrasing is taken from YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAV3KOe_PNE
They asked Neil DeGrasse Tyson if he would have a problem convicting the defendant. He said (knowing physics), why are you indicating he possessed 2000 milligrams of cocaine? Why didn’t you say 2 grams of cocaine? Then said that is less than the weight of a penny to the audience. Tyson was immediately dismissed from jury duty. The point of the story is that Tyson was indicating the judge did not know what they were talking about. He of course in the excerpt spoke of a psych equivalent situation on jury duty. I wanted to give an example of how judges simply are not well educated and not focus on psychology.
If I always give psych examples it can come across as I have an axe to grind. My main goal is to get people to realize their own cognitive/social/etc. biases and errors in judgements they make. So please don’t deify judges as being so advanced. They are not polymaths but actually many times far from it.
